COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO PIANO TUNING with Bob Sowyrda

Bob Sowyrda is a past recipient of the Gil and Mary Stott Award for music composition and performance. A self-employed piano technician and musician, Bob tunes and services the instruments of the who’s who of Buffalo and beyond, including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He is the choir director for Baker Memorial Methodist Church, and has served as music director for the Aurora Players for many shows. 

2-3pm General introduction to piano tuning 
A) Definition of terms: Physical terms – frequency, beats, harmonics Rope demo Musical Intervals Temperament Tools – tuning fork, lever, felt, wedge 
B) Explanation of tuning process 3-3:10 
Break 3:10-4:30 
Tune a piano (demonstration with explanation) 4:30 
Break 4:40 
Attendees try a little “hands-on” 5:30 
Dinner Break 6:00
